Psalm 23 Declarations of Faith

Kevin Martin

The Lord showed me Psalm 23, verse by verse, as declarations of God’s will for each believer in Christ against fear of every sort, for fear displaces faith.  Whereas, declaring God’s word against fear establishes God’s Word to activate His angels; to establish our foundation of faith, rooted and grounded in God’s love and to send the enemy to flight. See Ephesians 3:17-19 and 1 John 4:18, 19 at end of this article.

Why make declarations over yourself? David prophesied what Jesus would hear His Father speak that He could declare over Himself.

Psalm 2:7 NKJV

“I will declare the decree:
The Lord has said to Me,
You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.”

Jesus declared in John 17:25, 26 NKJV O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

In like manner, we can in faith, declare the Word of God Holy Spirit inspires us to apply to ourselves or to someone else’s life.

Now Consider Psalm 23

1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.

Ps 34:9, 10 NKJV

Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

Phil 4:19 NKJV And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Holy Spirit (H.S.) prompted me to say: Jesus is the only Shepherd who can supply all my need according to Father God’s riches in glory.

You can declare over yourself, “I will fear no lack because Jesus is my Shepherd.”

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.

Mark 8:17, 19 NKJV

17 But Jesus, . . . said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread?

19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”

Rev 7:17 NKJV “for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters.”

H.S. prompted: Father God owns the finest green pastures where the waters are fresh and pure.  Jesus leads us directly to them and we rest there fully satisfied.

Declare over yourself, “I will not fear drought or famine. His fields are always lush and green and His waters always refreshingly cool.”

3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Ps 5:8 NKJV Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.

Isa 42:16 NKJV I will bring the blind by a way they did not know;
I will lead them in paths they have not known.
I will make darkness light before them,
And crooked places straight.
These things I will do for them,
And not forsake them.

H.S. prompt: When I suffer loss and lose my way, He leads me back to Father’s house; comforting and healing my heart and mind. He leads in full repentance and clothes me in His righteousness, to the praise of His glorious name.

Declare over yourself, “I will not fear getting lost along the way.  Jesus will always find me, comfort my soul and remind me of His righteousness within me.”

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Ps 27:1-4 NKJV

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked came against me
To eat up my flesh,
My enemies and foes,
They stumbled and fell.
Though an army may encamp against me,
My heart shall not fear;
Though war may rise against me,
In this I will be confident.
One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.

Isa 43:2 NKJV When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.

H.S. prompt: In the darkest place I will ever walk where my life seems to ebb from me, I will not fear the enemy’s most evil threats; for You are within me and all around me. Your scepter of life comforts me and returns me to ease.

Declare over yourself, “I will not fear to follow Jesus, even where evil and death reign; for His rod protects and His scepter blesses.”

5. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.

Ps 92:10-13 NKJV

But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox;
I have been anointed with fresh oil.
My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies;
My ears hear my desire on the wicked
Who rise up against me.
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.

About H.S.: You feed me a sumptuous meal while enemies watch in frustration that all their attempts against me fail. Holy Spirit, You are upon me to fill me up with Your loving presence.

Declare over yourself, “I will fear no enemy, either human or demon, but enjoy Holy Spirit’s peace and joy, as I eat every meal with Him.”

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.

Ps 27:4, 5 NKJV

One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.
For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.

Ps 27:13 NKJV I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living

H.S. – Your goodness and mercy are my constant companions and I live in Father’s house, both now and forever!

Declare over yourself, “I will fear nothing God asks of me, for His goodness and mercy will be with me and follow me to Father’s everlasting home.”

Declaring Other Scripture Declarations:

1 John 1:3 NKJV that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

Declaration: We declare that by the life of Jesus within us, we have fellowship with Father God and His Son Jesus Christ.

John 16:14, 15 NKJV

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

Declaration: Holy Spirit takes what Jesus has done and declares it to us.

All the things Jesus has received from the Father, Holy Spirit declares they are available to us.

When we are informed by the word of God or by Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts what God wills for us, we can declare it, even as Job’s accusers knew what to do with God’s word.

Job 22:28 NKJV You will also declare a thing,
And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways.

When Angels Speak God’s Will: We partner with Him by declaring it.

Psalm 103:20 TPT So bless the Lord, all his messengers of power, for you are his mighty heroes who listen intently to the voice of his word to do it.

Verse 20 Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary: (angels) “do his commandments … word–or, literally, “so as to hearken,” etc., that is, their

acts of obedience are prompt, so that they are ever ready to hear, and know, and follow implicitly His declared will (compare Lu 1:19). Therefore, when we declare God’s Word, angels hear and go into action.

Luke 1:19-20

Zechariah asked the angel, “How do you expect me to believe this? I’m an old man and my wife is too old to give me a child. What sign can you give me to prove this will happen?”  Then the angel said, “I am Gabriel. I stand beside God himself. He has sent me to announce to you this good news. But now, since you did not believe my words, you will be stricken silent and unable to speak until the day my words have been fulfilled at their appointed time and a child is born to you. That will be your sign!”

However God Speaks

However God speaks; by His Word, by His Spirit or by an angel, if we declare His Word (His will), we partner with God to see His Word come to pass, whether in our lives or for others.  If we give in to unbelief, we give up the opportunity to be a part of God’s Word in action in the earth.

Proverbs 18:21 TPT Your words are so powerful that they will kill

or give life, and the talkative person will reap the consequences.

Consider Mary’s answer as the angel Gabriel told her she would conceive a child by Holy Spirit and He would be the Savior of the world. As a young virgin, she had obvious reason to be skeptical or even to yield to unbelief,.

Luke 1:30, 31, 34, 35, 38 NKJV

30. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.” . . . 34. Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
35. And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
38. Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Ask Holy Spirit to give you declarations to speak over yourself with these verses.

Ephesians 3:17-19 NKJV

that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

1 John 4:18, 19 NKJV

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.
