JOY TO THE WORLD!

Luke 1:26-31 NKJV

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”
But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.

Luke 2:10 ESV And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

The Lord is come;

Luke 2:11 ESV For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Let earth receive her King.

Luke 1:32, 33 ESV He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.

Let every heart prepare Him room,

Luke 1:34, 35, 38 NKJV Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

What was the virgin Mary doing?  Was she making room in her heart for a child Who would be the Holy One?  Was she preparing herself for the Holy Spirit to overshadow her? Was she preparing herself to receive the seed in her womb Who would be her Savior?

Whatever went on in the thoughts of her heart, it progressed according to the yielding of her being, as the maidservant of the Lord, to the word of His angel.

And heav’n and nature sing,

Luke 2:13 NKJV And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

And heav’n and nature sing,

Luke 2:14 NKJV “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

And heav’n and heav’n and nature sing.

Luke 2:14 NKJV “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Joy to the world! The Savior reigns; Let men their songs employ.

This song, Joy to the World, men and women and children have employed for centuries to repeat the sounding joy of the Savior reigning as King; since the angels first sang that night, till this night in the year 2020, and forever and ever.

White fields and floods – Rocks, hills and plains

Luke 19:38-40 NKJV

“‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd,

“Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”
But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

For if we would not sing Joy to the World, nature itself would sing and repeat and repeat the sounding joy that our Savior reigns!

White fields and floods ; repeat the sounding joy

Rocks, hills and plains; repeat the sounding joy,

Heav’n and nature; repeat the sounding joy.

Isaiah 55:12 NKJV

“For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace;
The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you,
And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

Let them not replace us singing the glories of our King.  Let them join us in a triumphant chorus that resounds and resounds and resounds in every corner and crevice all over the world.

He rules the world with truth and grace,

Romans 15:12 TPT And Isaiah prophesied: “An heir to David’s throne will emerge, and he will rise up as ruler over all the non-Jewish nations, for all their hopes will be met in him.”

John 1:17 NKJV For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Moses ruled through the law, but Jesus came in love, to rule by truth and grace.

And makes the nations prove

Philippians 2:9-11 ESV

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The glories of His righteousness,

Isaiah 61:11 NKJV For as the earth brings forth its bud, As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

And wonders of His love,

Galatians 2:20 NKJV  I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

And wonders of His love,

John 3:16 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

And wonders, and wonders of His love.

Galatians 5: 22, 23 NKJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Isaiah 9:6, 7 NKJV For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end,

Luke 2:18 NKJV Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Of all the people with reason to question what she was hearing from an angel, Mary had the most threatening reasons.  Her purity could be questioned. She could be rejected, forsaken and even stoned.  Despite all those threatening possibilities Mary believed the angel faithfully represented the God she had trusted all her life.  When we know God, as I believe Mary did, we can know when it is He offering to include us in the impossible, unthinkable, miraculously wonderful work of God.  Everything she might fear could happen.  But she did not bow to fear.  She bowed her heart to her Father in Heaven and received in her womb the desire of all nations.

Are you ready for Him to challenge your faith to believe Him for the impossible?  This is a season like we have not walked through in generations. It’s in times like these that God does the unimaginably wonderful.  Are you focused on Him or on all the myriad of negative possibilities?  It’s time to focus on God and expect Him to move for us?  Trust the love He has for you and for all of us.  He is faithful!

Worship the Lord our God as we celebrate the birth of His Son.
